1. Is plug-in solar legal in the UK?
Yes. Following the 2025/26 regulatory overhaul, the "ban" on domestic plug-in systems has been lifted. While they were previously restricted due to safety concerns about wiring, the government has now issued clear standards (under BS 7671 Amendment 4) that allow these systems to be used safely in standard UK homes and apartments.
2. Do I need an electrician to install it?
No, for most kits. The primary appeal of "Plug-and-Play" is that it's designed for consumer installation. If the kit is under the 800W threshold and uses an approved micro-inverter, you can simply mount the panels and plug the lead into a standard, weather-protected outdoor socket.
3. Will I get paid for the energy I send back to the grid?
To benefit from the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) and receive payments, your system must be registered and typically requires MCS certification.
- DIY setups: Great for lowering your own bills (self-consumption), but harder to secure export payments.
- Professional setups: If you want to sell energy back, we recommend having a certified installer sign off on the connection to get your MCS paperwork.
