Recoup's technology represents one of the most effective and fastest-growing solutions for genuine energy efficiency. Whether you are navigating compliance for new builds through essential tools like SAP, SBEM, or BREEAM, or are looking to reduce operational costs in existing properties, our systems deliver proven results. Recoup provides essential hot water cost savings for everything from high-traffic commercial buildings and hotels to hard-to-treat residential homes, ensuring both compliance and significant, long-term efficiency gains.

Saves up to 60% of the energy per shower!

Waste Water Heat Recovery for Showers (WWHRS) is a technology increasingly implemented in new buildings and social housing. It is a straightforward system that captures heat energy from waste shower water using a heat exchanger. This recovered energy is then utilized within the shower system, resulting in cost savings, energy conservation, and reduced carbon emissions.

How Waste Water Heat Recovery Works for Showers

Approximately 85-90% of the heat energy from showers is lost down the drain. Waste Water Heat Recovery for Showers (WWHRS) captures this heat from the shower's waste water and transfers it to the cold water supply of the shower and/or the property's water heater. This process reduces the need for hot water during showers, leading to energy savings and lower household costs.

Vertical WWHRS

Wastewater from the shower passes through a copper heat exchanger, while cold mains water circulates around it.

Horizontal WWHRS

Waste water from showers flows over a copper heat exchanger, while cold mains water circulates through the exchanger.

The installation method for System A is illustrated above. It works by sending preheated water to both the water heater and the cold side of the shower, ensuring maximum efficiency and significant savings. In contrast, System B directs the preheated water solely to the shower. This approach is ideal for easy retrofits, upgrades, and situations where a second system is necessary within a property.
