Bathroom with Book an Showroom Button On
Specifying a reliable wet room system requires robust structural components that guarantee a completely watertight finish and highly efficient water clearance. Our comprehensive range of wet room supplies includes lightweight XPS foam formers pre-engineered with the exact drainage gradient required, ensuring swift water evacuation without the need for manual screed levelling. For the critical waterproofing stage, we offer professional liquid tanking kits and flexible sealing membranes designed to accommodate natural subfloor movement and prevent long-term water ingress into the building fabric. Installers can complete the enclosure with our selection of reinforced, minimalist glass panels, bracing arms, and highly durable stainless steel drainage grates. Whether you are converting a compact en-suite on a timber frame or fitting a large accessible washroom on solid concrete, these systems provide the structural integrity required to support heavy tile loads safely.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to tank the entire bathroom when installing a wet room?
It is not always necessary to waterproof the entire room, but the designated wet zone must be thoroughly protected to comply with modern building guidelines. As a standard trade practice, the entire floor area should be tanked, alongside the walls within the immediate shower enclosure up to a height of at least two metres. If the bathroom is particularly small, poorly ventilated, or prone to heavy splashing, tanking the entire floor space and all lower wall perimeters provides an essential secondary barrier against structural water damage.
What flow rate is required for a wet room waste trap?
The required drainage flow rate depends directly on the output of the installed shower valve. Wet room wastes must evacuate water rapidly because there is no raised tray to contain the pooling liquid. Standard traps generally process around 30 litres per minute, but if you are specifying a high-pressure twin-valve system, a drench head, or a pumped shower, you must select a high-flow trap capable of clearing upwards of 40 litres per minute to prevent water from migrating across the bathroom floor.
Can I install a wet room former directly onto standard floorboards?
Wet room formers should never be installed directly onto standard pine floorboards due to the risk of significant flex underfoot. Any movement in the subfloor will ultimately compromise the waterproof tanking membrane and crack the finished grout lines. The existing floorboards in the shower area must be removed and the joists modified to accommodate the depth of the former tray, allowing it to sit flush with the rest of the room. The surrounding subfloor should then be over-boarded with minimum 18mm exterior-grade WBP or marine plywood to ensure a completely rigid, deflection-free base prior to applying the tanking kit.
