Considerations For Choosing a Placement For Your Ring Camera
Make sure to choose a location that provides a clear view of the area you want your Ring camera to monitor. Avoid placing the camera in areas with obstructions that could block the lens or interfere with the camera's field of view.
Additionally, consider the camera's range and angle when selecting a placement. Make sure the camera is positioned at the right height and angle to capture the best possible footage. Test different placements before permanently installing the camera to ensure you get the best coverage.
Position cameras at a height that captures faces clearly, avoiding placing them too high or too low. Ring recommends outdoor cameras be placed approximately 9 feet off the ground, with a 20-degree downward tilt.
Ensure the camera's field of view covers the desired area, consider potential blind spots and adjust accordingly.
Place cameras so that people move across the field of view, rather than directly toward or away from the camera. This improves motion detection. And, avoid having the camera detect motion through windows, as this can cause false motion alerts.
Ensure a strong Wi-Fi signal at each camera location and use a Wi-Fi extender if necessary.
Be mindful of your neighbours' privacy and avoid pointing your Ring cameras at their property. Be aware of and comply with local laws and regulations regarding video and audio recording.
Ensure any outdoor cameras are rated for outdoor use and are protected from the elements.
