Optimal Placement and Pipework Routing
Horizontal panels are traditionally installed directly beneath windows to counteract cold downdraughts from the glazing. Because tall white radiators exceed standard windowsill heights, you must specify an alternative mounting location.
For maximum efficiency, installers should mount vertical units on interior walls free from obstruction. Placing a tall radiator directly behind a sofa, a tall cabinet, or an open internal door traps the rising convection currents. This forces the local air temperature to rise too quickly, causing thermostatic valves to shut the unit off before the wider room reaches its target temperature.
When replacing a horizontal radiator with a tall vertical model, the new unit will have a significantly narrower physical footprint. You must factor in the additional labour required to lift floorboards and modify the existing pipework, bringing the pipe centres much closer together to align with the new valve inlets.
