Ventilation & Dehumidifiers

City Plumbing sells a wide selection of ventilation and dehumidifiers at some of the lowest prices. Essential for maintaining air quality and preventing moisture buildup in residential and commercial spaces, our ventilation solutions are highly efficient, reliable, and cost-effective for all your air management needs.
Our extensive range includes bathroom extractor fans, comprehensive fan kits, flexible ducting, strong vents, and grilles to fight damp and mould. You’ll also find a choice of high-performance dehumidifiers with enhanced features to control moisture levels. A top pick for both pros and DIYers, City Plumbing has you covered whether you're working on the bathroom, kitchen, or another space in a home or building.
What Is a Bathroom Extractor Fan Kit vs a Standalone Fan?
A standalone bathroom extractor fan is just the unit itself; ideal if you’re replacing an old wall fan where the wiring and ducting are already in place.
A bathroom extractor fan kit has everything you need for a new install. It usually comes with the fan, some flexible ducting, an outdoor vent, a grille, and includes all the necessary clips. These kits make things easier since the duct size always fits the fan output just right.
When Should I Choose Inline Bathroom Extractor Fans?
Standard fans sit directly on the bathroom wall or ceiling. In contrast, inline bathroom extractor fans are installed remotely, usually hidden in the loft space or ceiling void, and spliced directly into the ducting kit.
Inline fans have more power to pull air through those long, twisty ducts. Plus, since their motors are in the loft, they run super quietly in the bathroom. Also, they can be safely mounted right above showers because the electrical motor is well away from water, making them safe to use in Zone 1 areas.
Do You Need an Extractor Fan in UK Kitchen Spaces by Law?
Yes, in almost all modern scenarios. Under UK Building Regulations (Approved Document F), any newly built kitchen, major extension, or highly airtight renovation must have mechanical extract ventilation to combat moisture and cooking grease.
  • If extracting via a cooker hood: The fan must extract at least 30 L/s (litres per second).
  • If extracting from a wall/ceiling fan elsewhere in the kitchen, it must pull at least 60 L/s.
The Retrofit Rule: If you're simply renovating an old kitchen that never had an extractor fan, building regs don't strictly force you to install one from scratch (though you must never make existing ventilation worse). However, to prevent dampness and grease buildup, installing one is highly recommended.
Can I Use Flexible Ducting for All Extractor Fans?
Yes, flexible ducting & ducting kits are brilliant for navigating tight joists and awkward loft spaces. However, you should follow two trade best practices to maintain proper airflow:
  • Keep it taut: Loose, sagging, or heavily wrinkled flexible ducting dramatically reduces airflow and forces the fan to work harder.
  • Watch the length: For longer runs (greater than 3 metres), it's best to transition to rigid plastic ducting, using short flexible pieces only at the connection points to minimise resistance.
Do I Need a Dehumidifier if I Already Have Extractor Fans?
Dehumidifiers and extractor fans handle different jobs. A bathroom extractor fan provides source ventilation, drawing air from high-humidity areas and sending the steam outside before it spreads.
Portable or whole-house dehumidifiers are ideal for managing moisture. They pull existing ambient moisture out of the air across broader living spaces, making them a perfect partner to extraction fans during cold UK winters when drying clothes indoors or dealing with stubborn window condensation.
