Consumer Units & Distribution Boards
Consumer units are an integral part of any building requiring electricity as they distribute the main electrical supply entering a property to individual circuits. To ensure safety a consumer unit must meet required legislation and should only be installed by a qualified professional.
A consumer unit receives the incoming electrical supply to your property and then distributes it to individual circuits around your home. A fuse board helps to prevent electric shocks and electrical fires in your home, by monitoring the current in each circuit the fuse box will trip if it is being overloaded. When browsing our range of consumer units it is important to think about the size of the dwelling where it will be used and whether a populated or unpopulated board will be needed.
An MCB or RCBO is crucial to protect electrical circuits from damage caused by a short circuit or overload. A circuit breaker will quickly cut out the power when an overload is detected so the problem can be found and fixed. Once fixed the MCB or RCBO that tripped can easily be reset. As RCBOs detect both the current flow and return flow in the neutral line they can interrupt the circuit during overcurrent, short circuit and earth leakage where as an MCB may not protect against earth leakage.
