Advanced Water immersion heater is an electric water heater that sits inside a hot-water cylinder. It acts a bit like a kettle, using an electric resistance heater (which looks like a metal loop or coil) to heat the surrounding water. Immersion heaters consist of a brass boss, element, thermostat pocket and thermostat. They can be made of copper, Incoloy, or titanium and come in varying element lengths and boss thread sizes. If the cylinder is situated in a hard water area, it is recommended to use an immersion with an Incoloy or titanium element to prolong the life of the immersion. Also, if the tank is only heated via immersion and it is being used in student accommodation or in a home, it is recommended to use a titanium immersion. Immersion heaters are connected to their own power supply via a cable. They can be easily switched on and off via an external programmer, as there is no need to constantly heat the water in the unvented cylinder. The immersions are usually a specific size or style for the cylinder they are fitted to. This differs between the different manufacturers.
