Eco Design Explained

Eco Design Explained

Ecodesign sets the minimum energy performance and environmental criteria for products that use energy, this includes many heating products and so has a direct impact on the plumbing and heating industry.

What products does ErP effect?

Gas, LPG, Oil & Electric Boilers (including Combi)

Dual fuel boilers greater than 50k

Heat Pumps (air, ground, water source)

Thermostatic Controls

Water heaters with rated heat outputs of less than or equal to 400kW

Hot water storage tanks less than or equal to 2000 litres

It also means that as an installer you have certain responsibilities to ensure that your customer has the appropriate paper work for their home.

So What Has Changed?

Under the new directive, though you are still able to install older boilers, heat pumps etc, there have been some new products introduced on to the market and these will are rated differently.

Namely new ERP products are rated using a A+++ to G grade rating system.

This shouldnt effect most Sedbuk boiler efficiency figures and ratings, so these are unlikely to change, however the energy consumption will improve where boilers are fitted with the new ERP energy efficient pumps.
